Welcome to J.B. Hunt Elementary,
home of the Huskies! Hunt Elementary is the newest elementary
school addition in the Springdale School District. We opened our
doors in August 2005 with nearly 500 students. Since our opening,
we have added four pre-kindergarten classes for children ages three
and four. We hope you will take this opportunity to take a brief
virtual tour of our building as we spotlight our classrooms, media
center, computer labs, and our Husky mascot inside the main entrance
foyer.
Our school offers two computer labs for students to
develop technology skills. In addition, we have a large
well-equipped media center, and classrooms for our art,
gifted/talented, and music programs. The music program offers the
opportunity for fourth and fifth grade students to be involved in
chorus. Students are encouraged to audition for this opportunity.
A full-time school counselor can often be found in
classrooms meeting with small groups of students, sharing strategies
with parents to help with homework, or providing help in adjusting
to a new school.
Our academic focus is for every child to achieve his/her
fullest potential. Point-in-time remediation is offered to every
student in grades 3-5. In addition, students in grades k-2 develop
reading skills using a research based approach. This includes a
research based phonics program called Phonetic Connections. Frequent
assessments provide teachers, students, and parents valuable
information regarding student performance. Intervention strategies
are implemented for students needing additional instructional
support.
A full-time literacy specialist works with K-2 students
and teachers. Two additional part-time specialists assist students
in grades 3-5. The literacy specialists support teachers through
modeling research based lessons, analyzing student work to plan
instruction, assessing students to monitor progress, and working
with individuals or groups of children needing additional support.
Thank you for your interest in J.B. Hunt Elementary.
The administration and staff would welcome the opportunity to answer
further questions you may have about our district or other specific
details about programs within our building.
Sincerely,
Michelle Doshier,
Principal
